Backround. In the past low density lipoprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol were regarded as the most accurate in systemic cardiovascular risk assessment. Non high density lipoprotein cholesterol plays an important role in 2021 European cardiovascular disease prevention guidelines.
The management of modifiable cardiovascular risk factors is still one of the main objectives in preventing coronary heart disease. The EUROASPIRE IV (European Action on Secondary and Primary Prevention by Intervention to Reduce Events IV) cross sectional survey were carried out to estimate the prevalence of the main risk factors in European countries and evaluate the implementation of evidence based guidelines on secondary cardiovascular prevention.
Background. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the main mortality cause in Lithuania. The Lithuanian CVD mortality rate is nearly two times higher as compared to the old member states of EU and it is possibly due to several reasons: different lifestyle habits and/or genetic factors. The aim of this study was to investigate the relation between cardiovascular diseases, risk factors and biochemical markers of atherosclerosis in the Lithuanian population.
