While many countries of the world are experiencing epidemics of AIDS, Lithuania is one of those countries where HIV incidence among children is very low. Paediatric HIV didn’t seem to be a problem for many years in Lithuania, unfortunately the epidemiological situation has changed recently. The rise in the number of HIV-infected women in Lithuania has led to the emergence of new cases of congenital HIV infection.

Background. Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is regarded as a benign tumour affecting the jaws. The first description of this rare lesion was introduced by Jaffe in 1953. CGCG usually occurs in patients younger than 30 years, is more common in females than in males, and is more common in the mandible than in the maxilla. Electronmicroscopic and immunohistological analyses showed that CGCG is a process that arises from monohistocyte-like cells. CT is excellent for demonstration of bone thinning or destruction.

Objectives. Nephronophthisis (NPH) is the most common genetic cause of endstage renal disease (ESRD) in childhood and adolescence. Diagnosis is often late as it is difficult to suspect until complications of slowly decreasing renal function manifest. Treatment of NPHP is symptomatic until ESRD, then renal replacement therapy (RRT) is started. We report our centre’s experience with NPH diagnosis and results of kidney transplantation

Background. Acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) is a rare encephalopathy occurring after minor infection in children. ANE was initially described in 1995 in Asian children. The brain lesions are remarkably similar among patients with ANE, including white matter, bilateral thalamic, brain stem, and cerebellar lesions. Most children experience a monophasic illness but there is a predisposition to recurrent episodes in patients who have (dominant/de novo) mutarion in RANBP2 gene.
