Summary
Objective. The aim of this paper is to review the recent literature describing the different presentation, clinical features and risk factors of cardiovascular diseases between different sexes.
Methods. The publication databases PubMed and Cochrane Library, as well as the specialized information search system Google Scholar, were selected for the search of scientific literature sources.
Objective. The aim of the study was to analyse whether age, Body Mass Index (BMI) and Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) have an effect on pregnancy rate after performing in vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Infection (ICSI) procedures.
Research and methods. A retrospective study of 1166 stimulated cycles had been carried out at the “Vaisingumo klinika”. The women were examined according to their age, BMI, and AMH before the procedure.
Background. Elevated blood cholesterol, triacylglycerols and very low density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration is a characteristic finding in Fredrickson type V hyperlipoproteinemia. It is a very serious condition during pregnancy. An immediate treatment is required to prevent severe complications. Standard lipid-lowering drugs are contraindicated, thus lipoprotein plasmapheresis remains alternative effective treatment.
Background. Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder caused by genetic mutations in a tumor suppressor gene VHL. It is characterized by formation of multiple benign and malignant tumors, such as retinal and central nervous system hemangioblastomas, clear cell renal carcinomas, pheochromocytomas, pancre atic neuroendocrine tumors, as well as cysts in multiple organs in young age. Surgery is the method of choice for treatment of hormone-producing tumors, however situation becomes complicated if the procedure is applied during pregnancy.
In the latter years interest in vitamin D has grown: various studies and articles were written on this subject. Even though vitamin D importance for metabolism and structure of bone tissue is well-known recent studies have revealed even greater significance for human body. It was proven that vitamin D is important for most human body tissues (36 human body tissues were found to have receptors that are sensitive to vitamin D including brain, lung, thyroid, heart muscle, pancreatic p cells, immunity system cells) and can influence different processes happening in human organism.
Zika virus is an etiological factor of virai Zika infection which belongs to Flavivirus genus, Flaviviridae family. Zika virus is transmitted by mosquitoes of Aedes genus, which are active in mornings, late afternoons and evenings, reservoir being unknown. It is expected that the incubation period holds on a few days. Zika virus infection can be asymptomatic (80% patients) or last for 2-7 days with mild clinical symptoms, such as fever, maculopapular rash, conjunctivitis, headache, arthralgia and myalgia.
