Introduction. Osteoarthritis is a common cause of disabiltty in an elderly. Total knee arthroplasty is an effective treatment for end stage knee osteoarthritis. Many preoperative patient factors influence the postoperative re­sults. The aim of this study was to prospectively evaluate influence of preoperative knee function on the outcome 12 months after total knee arthroplasty.

The aim: to examine the prevalence of knee injuries during the last 20 years, to determine the age and sex related pecu­liarities, to compare our data with the similar studies from the other coun­tries.
