Background Context. The SRS-22 questionnaire is a widely accepted questionnaire to assess the health-related quality of life for scoliotic patients. This questionnaire has not previously been used in Lithuania.

Purpose. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of adapted Lithuanian Version of SRS-22 questionnaire.

Study Design. This is an outcome study to determine the internal consistency, and validity of adapted Lithuanian version of Scoliosis Research Society-22 (SRS-22) Instrument.

Patient Sample. A total of 46 patients from a single institution who underwent surgical treatment for idiopathic scoliosis were surveyed. All patients had a minimum of 2 years follow-up. 46 patients responded to the first set of questionnaires. 40 (87%) of the first time respondents returned their second survey. The average age was 16.5 years.

Outcome Measures. Floor and ceiling effects, internal consistency, reproducibility and concurrent validity of the Lithuanian version of the SRS-22 questionnaire.

Methods. Translation/retranslation of the English version of the SRS-22 and all steps for cross-cultural adaptation process were performed. Later, SRS-22 questionnaires and previously validated Short Form-36 (SF-36) outcome instruments were mailed to 46 patients who had been surgically treated for idiopathic scoliosis. The two measures of reliability as internal consistency and reproducibility were determined by Cronbach alpha statistics and intraclass correlation coefficient, respectively. Concurrent validity was measured by comparing with an already validated questionnaire (SF-36). Measurement was made using the Pearson correlation coefficient (r).

Results. Descriptive statistics, distributions, test-retest, and test for concurrent validity showed satisfactory results. After retranslation, Cronbach of internal consistency for four of the corresponding domains was very satisfactory and for one domain (satisfaction, 0.784) was good. The ICC of four domains of SRS-22r questionnaire demonstrated excellent test/retest reproducibility (ICC>0.75), and self-image/appearance domain demonstrated good test-retest reproducibility (ICC>0.40).

Conclusions. The Lithuanian SRS-22r could be used for the longitudinal follow-up of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients and for evaluating conservative or invasive surgical treatment efficacy.
