Study aim. To investigate seasonal changes in levels of serum 25-hydroxy-vi- tamin D (25OH-D) - the marker of vitamin D status - and its associations with several routine clinical parameters in young men.

Materials and Methods. Randomly selected generally healthy men of age 20-39 were examined during February or March (cold season) and re-examined in August or September (warm season). Some anthropometrical (height, weight, waist and hip circumference, arterial blood pressure) and laboratory measurements (lipids, high sensitivity CRP, glucose, 25OH-D) were performed.

Results. During 2012 and 2013, in total 130 men were included and 125 of them were re-examined. At cold season 96.93% were vitamin D deficient or insufficient, at warm season 46.80% had low vitamin D. At warm season, normally weighted men had higher 25OH-D levels comparing with obese or overweight men; in addition, 25OH-D negatively correlated with glucose and triglycerides levels.

Conclusions. Low vitamin D status in young generally healthy men appears to be a quite common probiem both in cold and in warm seasons. Inverse 25OH-D associations with body mass index, glucose and triglycerides were detected.
