Summary
In 2009, Vilnius University and Joniškėlis Nursing Hospital signed the cooperation agreement. The interinstitutional cooperation was restored to mark Vilnius University 430 years anniversary, also to remember and refresh the University relations with the Hospital, which was established in 1810.
Medical Faculty of Vilnius University commited to provide professional support to the Hospital.
In XVIII century Joniškėlis Manor be - longed to Karpiai family. In 1808 the owner of the Joniškėlis Manor bequeathed funds to establish a school and hospital. Vilnius University has been appointed as trustee. School operated by the University approved program. At this school studied prospective bishop K. Paltarokas and teached publisher of Lithuanian calendar L. Ivinskis. In 1816—1820, in the hospital worked physician A. Abichtas appointed of the University, in the second half of XIX century - J. L. Petkevičius. At the time Joniškė- is Hospital was focus of Lithuanian National Culture and Lithuanian National Revival.
After the First World War Joniškėlis Hospital became National Hospital of Biržai town. After the re-establishment of Lithuanian independence in 1990, Joniškėlis Hospital became Nursing Hospital. Joniškėlis community in assesing the cultural and educational role of University has revived historical relations with academic community.
We hope that the col- aboration and relations of Joniškėlis communities, Joniškėlis Nursing Hospital and Vilnius University will strengthen and expand.
